Projection Mapping EXAMPLES

TEAM LABS - INTERIOR PROJECTION INSTALLATIONS

While I was in Tokyo on a research project, I was taken to the Team Labs experience which is essentially an entirely 3D projection mapped museum with over 25 rooms of installations. It’s absolutely breathtaking and pushes the global boundaries of what can be done for a user’s experience. This technology is all accessible to anyone, it’s more so what lengths we can go to in pushing the boundaries of the space, the budget for projectors, the budget and concepts for installing architectural nuances that support the visuals and animations being projected.

  • projector needs and cost reference: most projectors for installations like this use laser technology so that they can run up to 5 years /24 hrs a day and not burn out.. . but a projector that would need to cover a 30’ x 40’ wall (for example) might range in the 5-figure ball park range to purchase, and require twice a year maintenance check-ins to make sure things are running smoothly.

Virtual Drink Bar

This example shows how the bar designers created a unique geometric (using cubes) back bar design so that there could be ACTUAL mapping to the physical geometry. When you have more of an “object” to WRAP the image around.. . it is this “wrapping” that truly gives the most compelling affect of the surface areas glowing, more so than just being projected onto. And really pushes the parallaxing affect and hides the process a bit on how the affect is being articulated and allows the viewer to experience it more so than contemplate on it’s fabrication.

LIVE FACE PROJECTION MAPPING

This is just taking the idea to the moon ;) .. . . could be something down the line that happens in one of your clubs as a special performance for a guest artist that can use the projectors you’ve already invested in for your space.. . that’s where we can get more bang for the buck in attracting what you put out there.

Projection mapped room

This is just a nice example of how projection mapping can also enhance, or create from scratch, the actual interior design of a room and then play/ push the parameters of that!

THANK YOU!
